Last weekend, the winter garden was pulled up and the spring garden was planted. 

where has the time gone?

so much happening, and so little time to update!  First - what is this? 

I found this in the garden as I was weeding.  I gave it a slight squeeze to see if it was hollow, and it moved!  The pointed end wiggled just a bit.  I set it down under the rose plants where it wouldn't be disturbed.  Would love to know what it is!  

Spring Garden Prep

At last!  The rain has paused, the sun is shining, and it's a day I am off.  The planets have aligned, and the garden box has been built.  We are ready for spring and summer!  

This is the "before" photo.  We placed the box here as it's a pretty barren part of the garden.  Loads of digging, buckets of compost, heaps of worm tea, and it still doesn't want to produce.  Last year we grew tomato plants here in soil bags (the soil in there was from those bags!) and it worked out pretty well.  But this year - more soil!  more tomatoes!  more garden!

It's been one week!  According to the chart, we should see lettuce, cabbage, bush beans, spinach, sugar snap peas, and turnips.  And what do we have?

Four out of six!!!

The cool weather garden was planted today! 

Most of us *erhm* got out of bed after going through the bowl of seeds (a bowl that holds all of the envelopes and seed packets).  The garden dirt was turned once more, and the planting started.

Got home in time to check out the garden. Luckily, the camera cooperated long enough to allow me to take some photos. Good news all around!

Growing Challenge: First weekend of April, cucumber seeds!

Urania Hive is painted and ready to go. To use the Queen Excluder or to not use the Queen Excluder? On one hand, it sounds good - the workers have a lot of work to do, and there's nowhere for the Queen to start laying. What's to stop them from collectively saying, this blows. Let's go find a better place. On the other hand - all the books & websites & other Guild members thus far haven't mentioned this - just one guy. Hm.
